2017 FIBA Asia Champions

09.11.2017

Balcombe Grammar School Year 9 student, Olivia Pollerd has helped Australia to the inaugural Asian girls’ under-16 championship title in India.

The Australian girls team, the Sapphires, went through the tournament undefeated and in the final Japan led by as many as 13 points and it took a 29-19 second half by the Australian girls to win the championships.

The Sapphires’ success earns them direct qualification for next year’s FIBA under-17 girls’ world championship in Minsk, Belarus.

Competing at State, National and World Championships requires many hours of training, practice and preparation. The Balcombe Grammar School community congratulate Olivia and the Sapphires’ on their outstanding performance and ongoing commitment to their sport.
