SSV State Swimming

Balcombe Grammar School congratulates Year 5 student, Kai Gilbert, and Year 4 student, Matthew Turnbull, who recently competed in the 2018 School Sport Victoria (SSV) State Swimming Championships.

The championships were held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on Wednesday 18 April, with just over 594 student athletes competing, representing over 282 schools.

Participants had the opportunity to meet some of swimming’s elite athletes including SSV Ambassadors and Paralympian’s Matthew Haanappel and Tim Disken, Victorian Institute of Sport athletes Koti Nagwati and Sian Whittaker, as well as Mack Horton who just returned from the Commonwealth Games with three gold medals.

Matthew represented BGS in the 9-10 year old 50 Metre Butterfly placing eighth with a time of 47.22 and Kai represented BGS in the 11 year olds 50 Metre Backstroke, placing third and receiving a bronze medal with a time of 38.60.
