A runaway success in the Rye Gift

31.01.2025

Year 10 Balcombe Grammar student, Aidan recently competed in the Rye Gift running event, held annually at the Rye Football Ground every January. Now in its 48th year, the event is the third-highest ranked event for professional running on the Victorian Athletics League calendar, which also conducts events such as the Stawell Gift.

In the Under 18 Boys 120m sprint Aidan managed to finish third in his heat, which meant a nervous wait to see if his time was good enough to make it through to the final. After reviewing the heat times, which were very close across all boys, Aidan ended up being the fourth fastest overall and he progressed to the final race.

The final was also a very closely run race, with Aidan improving on his heat time, which was enough to come through for the win after chasing down the out-markers in the final few strides.

The school community congratulates Aidan on his outstanding performance and on-going commitment to Athletics.
