in the George Jenkins Theatre
Be entertained by a large cast of Balcombe Grammar secondary students singing and dancing to chart-topping ABBA songs entwined in a story about growing up and letting go. Originating in London’s West End in 1999, Mamma Mia! is a jukebox style musical written by British playwright Catherine Johnson, with music and lyrics by Benny Anderson and Björn Ulvaeus.
Watch the hilarious unfolding of events before Sophie’s wedding on her Greek Island home. Sophie’s mother Donna is a free-spirited leader of 1970s band Donna and The Dynamos who also runs the local taverna. Sophie doesn’t know who her father is, so after discovering her mother’s diary from twenty years ago, she secretly invites three possible dads to the wedding without telling her mother or fiancé Sky.
Surrounded by a cast of friends and locals, watch the drama play out as Sophie and Donna question decisions about what has passed and what will be. Sing-along as you relive the music and watch the dynamic choreography come alive to the classic ABBA pop hits such as ‘SOS’, ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘Money, Money, Money’.
