VCE Results 2025

Congratulations to the Class of 2025 on their outstanding results, released today. Everyone at Balcombe Grammar have been delighted by this cohort of students and the positive contributions they have made to our school, and now we are able to celebrate their success.

The headline is that we have had more students than in any year before gain an ATAR of at least 90. This year, 17 students achieved this remarkable result (from the 83 who completed a scored VCE).  

The median ATAR was 74.95, and more than 80% of our scored students achieved an ATAR of at least 60, leaving them well placed to achieve their tertiary ambitions.  

We are delighted to commend the following students:

• Our Dux was Celeste Mezey*, who achieved the wonderful ATAR of 98.5. Memorably, last year Celeste received the Premier’s Award for Hungarian, and this year she was our highest achiever in Legal Studies (with a study score of 46), History: Revolutions, and Chemistry (shared).

• Proxime Accessit was Matilda Smith, who achieved an ATAR of 97.5, and a perfect study score of 50 in General Mathematics. Matilda was also our highest achiever in Health and Human Development (with a study score of 46) and Accounting.

• Ewan Connet* narrowly missed being Proxime Accessit, and we celebrate his achievements as the highest scorer in French, Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics.

• Four students achieved an ATAR of more than 95, placing them in the top 5% of the state:
  • Ally Russo*, who achieved our highest score in English.
  • Sasha Tykhyy, who achieved our highest study scores in Chemistry and Physics (both were shared), although his highest study score was 45 in Legal Studies.
  • Thaila Hartley-Jackson, who memorably achieved a study score of 50 in Outdoor and Environmental Studies in 2024 and followed this up in 2025 with three more 40+ study scores, including being our highest achiever in Psychology.
  • Will Squire, who also gained the highest study scores in Chemistry and Physics (shared).

• A further 10 students achieved an ATAR of more than 90, placing them in the top 10% of the state:
  • Charli Runge (who achieved our highest score in Business Management)
  • Lucy Wright
  • Alex Gorrie
  • Matilda Johnson
  • Nina Flanagan (who achieved a study score of 46 in Food Studies, and she was also our highest achiever in Media)
  • Taj Carver (who achieved our highest score in Japanese)
  • Bryce Lear*
  • Samia Pezzimenti
  • Mia Herring*
  • Matthew French

• Our Year 11 fast-tracking students also did very well. In particular, we congratulate:
  • Sophie Nicholls for her study score of 47 in Art Creative Practice. Sophie’s work has also been shortlisted for the VCE Top Arts exhibition.
  • Zach Craig for his two 45+ study scores (48 in Physical Education and 45 in Biology).
  • Jasmine Burnett who achieved a study score of 48 in Visual Communication Design.
  • Emily Dalton, studying VET Dance, received a study score of 45.

• Congratulations also to Year 9 student, Sonny Charles, for gaining a study score of 46 in General Mathematics.

*Notably, six students received the additional award of the VCE Baccalaureate – given to students who complete a Year 12 Language, a Year 12 Higher Level Mathematics course, and who perform well in their English subject. These students are marked above with an asterisk, and Lucy McLean also received this award in 2025.

While we have focused above on high achieving students, our hearts also swell with pride for students who are not listed. Their character, perseverance and courage, cannot be summarised in numbers, but are worthy of mentioning as they also performed admirably.

Special thanks to both our parent community for their support and BGS staff – teaching and non-teaching – who guided the Class of 2025 on their journey, which, for many of our Year 12 students, commenced in 2013 in Foundation.

We are excited to see the paths our Year 12 graduates will now forge in the years ahead.
