Young lifesavers riding a wave of success

07.03.2025

Over 880 competitors showed their rescue readiness at one of the biggest events on the lifesaving calendar, the Victorian Junior Championships, held at Point Leo Surf Life Saving Club from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 February.

Balcombe Grammar students, Lucy (Year 3) and Eddy (Year 5), both shone over the weekend, excelling in both their individual and team events.

Lucy came second in the individual board race and together with her team they had great success in the relays, winning both the surf team (swim) and the board relay. Lucy had to paddle from second place in the final leg to take out the gold, which was a tremendous effort, but she was a total superstar!

Eddy and his team won gold in the surf race finally beating the undefeated (for 3 years) Torquay team, as well as winning silver in both the Wade Relay and Aquacam, which is no small achievement for his age group!

We congratulate both Lucy and Eddy on their outstanding achievements and commitment to the Nippers Program that encourages children to participate in safe, fun and organised activities which prepares them to be future lifesavers.
