Year 10 is an important stage in a student’s learning journey, marking the point of transition into the senior years of schooling.
At Balcombe our Year 10 students will study English, Mathematics (General or Methods Pathway), French or Japanese, if selected, and a minimum of one semester of a Science and Humanities unit. Students will also participate in our Year 10 Physical Education program. In parallel with these subjects, Balcombe students are provided with a full complement of Year 10 semester-based electives, which allows them to take the first steps into developing a more individualised pathway. Whilst the choices students make at this time may provide a foundation for their future aspirations, it is also important that they should be the choices that suit a student’s current passions, capabilities and interests to succeed in a world beyond school.
There is also the opportunity for students in Year 10 to extend themselves by applying to undertake a Unit 1 and 2 VCE subject.
To support our Year 10’s in these important decisions we have an extensive Pathways Program which sees our Pathways Leader working with our Year 10 students and providing them with the necessary information linked to further studies and employment opportunities. To further assist this our Year 10 students also have the opportunity to complete work experience.
