Atkinson Brothers Recognised for Outstanding Community Service

Balcombe Grammar students, Oscar and Harry Atkinson, have been recognised for their exceptional commitment to community service through their work with the Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club over the summer season.

Both brothers dedicated significant time to supporting the club’s Nippers program, helping younger children develop essential surf safety awareness and lifesaving skills. Their efforts have made a meaningful contribution to one of the state’s busiest and most challenging beach environments.

Oscar, an experienced Nippers coach, has played a key role in the program over several years. Leading sessions both on the sand and in the water, he has helped guide a program that continues to grow in both size and success. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Oscar completed more than 150 patrol hours in a single season, an outstanding and rare achievement that reflects his strong commitment to keeping others safe.

Harry, in his first year as a Nippers coach, has also made a remarkable impact. Responsible for a group of 35 young participants, he demonstrated patience, enthusiasm, and leadership as he supported them in building confidence and skills in the surf. Harry also completed over 100 patrol hours during the summer and was recognised by the club with the Best First Year Patroller Award, a significant honour.

The boys’ contributions are particularly notable given the demands of Sorrento Back Beach, making their service even more valuable to the community. Through their dedication and leadership, Oscar and Harry have helped create a safer environment for beachgoers while inspiring younger members.
