BGS students hit a home run with professional Japanese baseball players

Last week, Balcombe Grammar students enjoyed an exciting and memorable baseball incursion with professional Japanese baseball players, Mr Kodai Hamaya and Mr Hiroki Goke.

Year 7 students were thrilled to learn from the talented athletes as they demonstrated a range of impressive baseball skills, techniques and tricks. Throughout the sessions, everyone had the opportunity to practise their batting and fielding, with plenty of enthusiasm, laughter and friendly competition on display.

Kodai, a professional pitcher, amazed students with the speed, power and accuracy of his throws. Watching his skills in action and hearing about his journey as a professional athlete provided a truly inspiring experience for our students.

The visit extended beyond the sporting field, with Hiroki and Kodai also spending time with our Year 10 Japanese classes. Students had the chance to ask questions in Japanese and engage in authentic conversations about life, sport and culture in Japan. These valuable interactions helped students build their language skills while gaining unique insights into the world of professional baseball.

Although the weather delivered a typical winter’s day, it certainly did not dampen spirits. The incursion was a tremendous success, providing students with a wonderful blend of sport, language and cultural learning.

We sincerely thank Mr Hamaya and Mr Goke for sharing their expertise and enthusiasm with our students. Their visit was both inspiring and unforgettable, and one that our students will remember.
