Victorian Equestrian Interschools Competition

We congratulate Year 12 students Layla Pollock and Olivia Sleep, who proudly represented Balcombe Grammar at the recent Victorian Interschool Equestrian Championships.

The championships attract some of the strongest equestrian riders in the state and our students achieved remarkable results against approximately 160–170 schools from across Victoria.

Layla Pollock, riding Merricks Foundastar, competed in both the Show Horse and Preliminary Dressage sections. In the Show Hunter classes, Layla delivered exceptional performances, placing 2nd, 3rd, and 5th, and finishing an outstanding 3rd overall individually. Her success has earned her qualification to represent Victoria at the Interschool National Championships in September. This is an incredible achievement in her final year of school.

Layla also competed in dressage for the first time with her horse and impressed judges with her strong performances, winning one test, placing 9th in another, and finishing 4th overall in a highly competitive field.

Olivia Sleep, riding Hot Statement, competed in the highly competitive Combined Training 80cm section, which incorporates both dressage and show jumping. Representing the school at this level for the first time, Olivia delivered an outstanding performance, showcasing exceptional composure, skill, and partnership with her horse to finish an impressive 7th overall out of 30 riders. Her achievement is a testament to her dedication and countless hours of preparation and training.

Equestrian Team Co-ordinator, Stephanie Powell said both students should be commended for their exceptional performances and their dedication, commitment and sportsmanship throughout the event.
