Year 7 to 8

Year 7 – 8

Our Year 7 learning programs guide our new secondary students in their transition from primary, whilst providing them with opportunities to explore and develop skills in the eight key learning areas associated with the Victorian Curriculum.

These key learning areas are further developed in Year 8 and our students are challenged academically and are supported in developing new learning routines they will need in future years.

Our Year 7’s also embark on a ‘Journey’ of design thinking and exploration.

The project based learning program ‘Journeys in Learning’ is designed to engage our young learners in thinking, provide them with opportunities to engage with real audiences, develop complex competencies related to communication and collaboration, as well as critical thinking and problem solving and offer them agency so that they can see purpose in what they are doing.  A collaborative and engaging program that is facilitated by two staff members.  Centred around four ‘Journeys’ that our students will undertake over the course of the year.

The move from Primary to Secondary is an academic and social transition that is carefully structured and supported at Balcombe.
